Moving

 If you are moving this year, don't forget to change your address. In this special section, you will find a complete liste of places where you should change your address as well as informative sites on moving and moving companies. Certain services, like Bell and Hydro-Quebec, let you make the change of address directly online. You should change you address for :

  • Gouvernement du Quebec, the govenment has a complete section on changes of address for all its services : permits, income tax, electoral lists, etc.

  • Federal government, there is no federal equivalent, but you can change your address at the Canada Customs and Revenue Agency.

  • Hydro-Quebec, you must notify Hydro-Quebec of your change of address at least 7 days before moving. You can make the change online on Hydro-Quebec's web site.

  • Gaz Metropolitain, you can also change your address on their web site.

  • Bell, in addition to changing your address on their site, there's a contest where you can win $15000 and there's also a moving cheklist. This change of address also applies to their other services like Sympatico and ExpressVu.

  • Videotron also have an online change of address form and a contest where you could win a decorating makeover, including the services of an interior designer and $10,000 worth of furnishings from Mobilia.

  • Internet service provider, if you have an ISP other than Bell or Videotron, don't forget to make the change. We have a list of ISP in the Montreal area, your ISP is certainly in there.

  • Newspapers and magazines, if you have a subscription to a newspaper or magazine, you can check our list of magazines and newspapers with web sites in our Medias section.

  • Insurance, you also have to do a change of address for your insurance company (home insurance, life insurance, car insurance, etc).

  • You also have to notify your employer, college or university of the change. You also have to notify your local Employement insurance office or welfare.

  • Don't forget your bank or caisse populaire. You usually have to go to your local branch, depending on the bank or visit their web sites.

  • Canada Post has a moving information site called Smart Moves, you can find mostly service offers like their forwarding service.

 You should also call and reserve a mover as soon as possible.The Quebec Trucking Association offers a complete information guide (in french) on moving and its preparation (packing, labelling, boxes, etc) and also give a list of moving companies who are members (also in french).
